About the Course

Three-year full-time Diploma Courses in Dramatic Arts The National School of Drama provides a three-year full-time Diploma Course for entrants intending to make theatre their profession.The central aim of the course is to prepare students for the practice of theatre. To this end a variety of practical skills must be developed and a corpus of knowledge acquired. While all areas of study are assessed separately and a high standard of work demanded in each, the most important intention of the course is the development of the intangible concept of creative imagination and its expression within the collective framework of a group. Syllabus Training in the School is based on a thorough, comprehensive and carefully planned syllabus that covers every aspect of theatre from theory to practice over three years, and the results are put to the test before a wide audience. The syllabus takes into account the methods of eminent theatre personalities who have shaped contemporary theatre in all its forms and expressions. It includes broad-based training in classical dramatic traditions in India and the West, modern theatre trends in India and abroad, and in the traditional and folk theatre of India, and specialized training in Indian theatre traditions

FIRST YEARIntroduction to ActingIntroduction to Theatre Techniques & DesignTheatre History, Literature & Aesthetics The FIRST YEAR is divided into two semesters. The first semester (July– December) is devoted to the basics of Acting, Theatre Techniques & Design, and Theatre History, Literature & Aesthetics. In the second semester the same subjects are studied in detail.

SECOND YEARSpecialisation in Acting OR Theatre Techniques & DesignTheatre History, Literature & Aesthetics In the SECOND YEAR the students choose their area of specialisation. This year is also broadly divided into two semesters: the third and fourth. The third semester covers Theatre History, Literature & Aesthetics, Acting (specialisation), and Theatre Techniques and Design (specialisation). The fourth semester has greater focus on Theatre History, Literature & Aesthetics, Acting (specialisation), and Theatre Techniques & Design (specialisation).

THIRD YEARSpecialisation chosen in the second year Continues The THIRD YEAR syllabus aims at giving students advanced training in their area of specialisation: Acting OR Theatre Techniques & Design.

NSD Delhi application form is available online as well as offline. The steps to fill the online application form are mentioned below: Step 1: Visit the official website of NSD Delhi at www.nsd.gov.in/delhi. Step 2: Click on ‘New Admission’ on the homepage and you will be redirected to a new page. Step 3: Register yourself as a new user by entering a username and a password. Step 4: Fill the application form with all personal and academic details and attach the necessary documents. Step 5: Submit the application form along with the documents and application fee of Rs 50. The application fee can be paid online through net banking, credit or debit card. NSD Delhi offline application form can be filled by following the steps mentioned below: Step 1: To receive the application form and prospectus (in English and Hindi) by post, you need to write to “The Dean Academics, National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi 110001”. Step 2: Send this application along with a crossed demand draft/pay order of Rs 225, payable at Delhi, including postal charges in favour of the “Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi”. Step 3: After receiving the application form, you need to submit the completed application form along with the necessary documents at the address mentioned below:

Eligibility Criteria

The mandatory eligibility norms that a candidate is required to fulfill are described in detail below: Age Eligibility: This section of the eligibility deals with the age related eligibility criteria set up by the authorities: • Minimum age of the Candidate: All the candidates must beat least 18 years of age as on 1/7/2021. • Maximum age of the Candidate: The Candidates must not be older than 30 years of age as on 1/7/2021. • Age relaxation for ST/SC candidates: All the reserved category candidates of SC and ST background would be provided a relaxation of 5 years regarding the upper age limit. Qualifying Examination: This section is dedicated to the eligibility norm with respect to the qualifying examinations: • The applying candidate must be a Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university. • The graduation has to be of at least 3 years duration. Language: The candidates must be fluent in English and Hindi Language. Work Experience: • The candidate must have a work experience of at least 6 theatre productions. • Documentary proof of at least 3 theatre experts has to be provided by the candidate. • Students must have a recommendation letter from atleast one Theatre Expert. • The candidate must also provide video evidence of the theatre work experience to the authorities.
